Origin of the foundation

When the first multichannel cochlear implants became available in the mid 80’s, this new type of auditory prosthesis was not reimbursed by social insurances although research studies demonstrated important benefits. The AURIS Foundation was created in 198x, to offer cochlear implants to some of our profoundly deaf patients, and thus improving their everyday life immediately without waiting for the outcome of the lengthy administrative process to reach social reimbursement.
